Governance

UHI Shetland is managed by a Board of Management which includes independent directors as well as staff and student-nominated directors. The company set up to manage UHI Shetland is constituted as a charitable company and directors have the duties of both company directors and charity trustees.

The Board of Management ensures that UHI Shetland fulfills its objectives, meets the legislative requirements of an assigned college of the University of the Highlands and Islands and works to the standards of the Code of Good Governance for Scotland's Colleges (pdf).

To enable it to operate effectively the Board of Management has delegated responsibility for specific aspects of the management of the college to separate committees.
