Cadet Intake 2015
Twenty three new officer cadets have embarked on careers in the Merchant Navy at The NAFC Marine Centre in Scalloway
The cadets will undertake a 3 year programme leading to award of Officer of the Watch with the deck group starting their sea phase with sponsoring companies at the end of January 2016 and the engineer group departing at the end of March.
One of the engineer cadets hails from Forfar and is following in the footsteps of his big brother who successfully completed his course at NAFC in July. This is not the first time brother has followed brother on the cadet programme in Shetland!
Head of NAFC’s Merchant Navy Cadet Programme Laura Burden said “It is great to see these keen new faces around the college. They are enthusiastically engaging with their studies, having already completed their first aid courses. The group have been out in the community getting to grips with the industry, enjoying tours of the Gemini and Northlink ships, along with an exciting day sail on the Swan. I’m sure that these new cadets will make the most of the great opportunities available to them and take advantage of the depth of experience of our staff and excellent facilities that we have here at the Centre. I wish them every success as they embark upon their journeys to become officers in the Merchant Fleet.”
The next intake for Deck Cadets will be on 1st February 2016 with the aim of successful completion in December 2018. Anybody interested in this opportunity to train while earning is invited to contact Laura at the Centre.
