Students raise over £1k for New Designers
Second and third year textile students at Shetland College UHI have been busy raising funds in order to attend a trade fair in London.
The students, who are all studying towards a BA in Contemporary Textiles, are all in Professional Practice 1 and 2 classes. So far they have raised funds by selling items which they developed as part of their Professional Practice module. They participated in the Makers Market during Shetland Wool Week as well as the Christmas Craft Fair at Clickimin. They have also been selling their goods in the College itself. A limited amount of their items are still available and would make unique last minute Christmas gifts.
Their tutor, Faye Hackers said “The trade fair, New Designers, is attended by almost all universities with creative design courses so we really should be striving to attend this. Especially as the section for Textiles is one of the largest areas within the show.”
The students have till August 2016 to raise the remaining funds required in order to book their place for the 2017 show. They are about half way there and have further fundraising ideas which they will launch early next year.
If you would like to see their items or make enquiries on how to support the students with their efforts then contact their tutor Faye Hackers on 01595 771504 for further information.
