Shetland Inshore Fish Survey
A new paper from our own Mia McAllister showing why the annual Shetland Inshore Fish Survey (SIFS) is so important to understanding our local environment.
Along with co-authors Lea-Anne Henry (University of Edinburgh) and Shaun Fraser (UHI Shetland), Mia’s work shows how commercially important fish species can be poorly represented by large-scale international survey data which do not sample important fish habitats, such as inshore around Shetland. Her paper on thornback ray ecology utilises SIFS data and discovers juvenile density hotspots in Shetland’s waters. The paper is now fully open access and available online.
