Lesson 1 - Reception and Feeding Station

This lesson will allow the learner to familiarise themselves with the controls of the meta quest "VR4VET Blue Sector" application by completing the tutorial integrated within the reception area of the app.

They will then explore a series of in-app presentations to provide background information and set the context of the aquaculture industry in Scotland.

Once complete, they will head towards the first workplace scenario- the feeding station. Here they will learn how technology is used to monitor the feeding of the salmon to optimise the wellbeing of the fish and to increase feed sustainability.

Reception area

Complete the tutorial and develop an understanding of:

  • the importance of the aquaculture industry in Scotland,
  • the nutritional benefits of seafood,
  • the characteristics of Atlantic salmon including their life-cycle and production cycle.

Feeding Station
  • Carry out remote feeding tasks from a salmon feeding station to ensure all cages receive adequate feed whilst also reducing wastage from overfeeding.
