Lesson 3 - Laboratory and Processing
content
In this lesson the learner will simulate the work of a laboratory technician in the aquaculture industry. They will use numeracy skills to calculate standard measures of fish health, and quantify plankton levels in a water sample. They will also experience working as a fish processing operative and complete tasks in several factory scenarios.
Laboratory content

Laboratory
- Carry out water sample analysis to determine plankton levels and identify different species.
- Calculate the condition factor by carrying out routine measurement tasks.
- Learn about salmon anatomy (coming soon)
Processing content

Processing
- Carry out tasks related to salmon processing in a factory setting in line with health and safety guidance such as bleeding, grading and quality assurance of the fish.
