Boats of Scotland's pelagic fishing fleet moored at a Shetland pier

content

The Scottish pelagic fishing fleet is based in the north-east of Scotland and Shetland and is comprised of 22 large state-of the art vessels, typically operated by families with a fishing lineage of several generations.

Mackerel, herring, and blue whiting are the main species caught. The pelagic industry is the most valuable out of the fisheries sectors in Scotland, in terms of both volume and value of fish.
