What qualifications will I receive?
On successful completion of the cadet programme you will receive a Certificate of Competency qualifying you to serve as a junior officer on merchant ships of any size operating anywhere in the world, plus academic qualifications:
Deck Officer Cadets:
- a Deck Officer of the Watch Unlimited Certificate of Competency (STCW Reg II/1) from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
- a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Nautical Science.
- a National Certificate (NC) in Shipping & Maritime Operations.
- relevant short course certificates, including: First Aid, Fire Fighting, Sea Survival, etc.
Engineer Officer Cadets:
- an Engineer Officer of the Watch Unlimited Certificate of Competency (STCW Reg III/1) from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
- a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Marine Engineering.
- a National Certificate (NC) in Shipping & Maritime Operations.
- relevant short course certificates, including: First Aid, Fire Fighting, Sea Survival, etc.
With experience as a junior officer and additional training you will be able progress to higher ranks, including Captain or Chief Engineer, or to obtain further academic qualifications.
