Why did you decide to apply for the PDA Education Support Assistant course?
I applied to do this course due to my circumstances and as an alternative to the full time HNC. The class timetable was much more accessible, as it was online and in class during the evening.
Can you tell us what you have enjoyed most about studying at UHI Shetland?
I have enjoyed getting to know new people and learning new skills. Learning through UHI Shetland has meant figuring out technology better and connecting more with others. It's been enjoyable.
What advice would you give someone who was interested in studying the course?
My advice would be, go for it. It is a lot of work in a year, but it is all achievable. I have had some rich conversations and fun debates. Online classes that run in the evening means it's been more flexible for anyone; for me having a baby, it meant I could carry on learning through the online classes. The Lecturer is very flexible in helping you so that you don't miss out on anything and finding a way to make it possible to keep going.
How has the course impacted your professional role?
I have learned all about the important legislations and policy along with different behaviour, rates of development, how to observe and professional practice, roles within the setting and much more. This course helps gain more confidence in your role.
