Join us on Monday 27 November, 6-8pm at Speldiburn Community Hub, Bressay in a creative conversation exploring local memories of healthcare in Shetland. While enjoying some tea and cakes, we welcome anyone to have a look at local archives and share memories. Of course you're welcome to bring any of your own pictures too!

This is the first workshop kicking off our Rural Health - Past, Present and Future project. This project is looking to partner with community groups in Shetland to uncover different archives and memories of what healthcare was like, host conversations across generations, and then work with local artists to develop a creative piece together on the findings. This will culminate in a community ceilidh next May sharing these creative pieces and exploring future hopes and dreams for healthcare.

This is a collaboration between the Centre for Island Creativity and Sarah-Anne Munoz, UHI Professor of Rural Health. The research project is funded by AHRC and Sarah-Anne is the principal investigator. Public engagement events are being delivered in Inverness and Shetland to explore community memories and perceptions of local healthcare. The Shetland workshops are being delivered by Science Ceilidh (https://www.scienceceilidh.com) with support from Andrew Jennings from the Centre for Island Creativity and UHI Shetland PhD student Evelyn Anderson.

Andrew Jennings from UHI Shetland says, ‘It’s exciting to be working with Science Ceilidh on this project. I am really looking forward to hearing from folk about their memories of healthcare in Shetland and exploring ideas about how we might shape healthcare for the
future.’
