Virtual Reality for Career Counsellors and Vocational Trainers workshop Norway
UHI Shetland Stem Co-ordinator Eleanor Hutcheon and Marine Science Lecturer Saro Saravanan attended the workshop at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim between 25th -28th November.
NTNU is involved in the development of Blue Sector app funded by DEFRA as part for the Seafood Project. The VR Blue Sector App has been trialled recently in Shetland at the Scalloway campus, Shetland schools and at career events which has been well received to promote awareness, training, and a job taste in the aquaculture industry.
The workshop gave wealth of knowledge and experience on how the VR apps are used in teaching and learning, integration of VR app in vocational training and career guidance, monitoring and evaluation, and hands on experience on the use of different VR apps and equipment. Feedback from the Norwegian experience indicated that the Blue Sector VR app has been well received in Trondheim compared to other VR apps used in career guidance. The workshop has developed further networking and future collaboration for UHI Shetland.
